- The School Run, review site for teachers and parents

Bron is an enslaved young Saxon. He does the hard work that his master – the village blacksmith – would rather avoid. Bron’s reward is a lack of food and cruel jeers from some of the non-enslaved children.

But one day, while out collecting firewood Bron encounters a young warrior –the niece of a local king. She has been charged with helping to bring peace to the local Saxons and Jutes – the two tribes are on the brink of war.

Bron takes his chance to escape and join the young warrior and her leader, Lord Beogard, on their dangerous and daring quest. Can Bron prove that honour and bravery are not reserved for those of noble birth?

A tale of friendship, divided loyalties and the desire to belong, this adventure resonates with all children and immerses readers in the Anglo-Saxon era, with plenty of detail about the myths and culture of that time

  • Includes a helpful factual section at the back of the book telling the real story of Anglo Saxon life and you can also download free activity sheets which are perfect to use in the classroom.
